Description complète
MiSTer FPGA: console logic rebuilt, not imitated
A software emulator guesses how a machine behaves. An FPGA recreates its circuits, logic gate by logic gate. That is what the open-source MiSTer project does: the chips of an 8- or 16-bit console are redescribed in reconfigurable logic, with the input latency of the original hardware. This kit brings together the Cyclone V board, its 128 MB of SDRAM, the expansion board, the case, the power supply and a 32 GB microSD card prepared with the system.
What it does
- 128 MB of SDRAM on the board: this is the external memory required by the project's most demanding cores. Without it, part of the core catalogue refuses to load.
- SNAC connector: an original controller plugs in directly, without going through a USB adapter and without the latency it adds.
- VGA output at 240p and 480i: the original resolution is sent as is, with no intermediate scaling, to a CRT monitor or a scaler.
- Four USB ports and a real-time clock: controllers, keyboard and mouse plug in without an extra hub.
What it doesn't do
- No games are included. The microSD card contains only the open-source MiSTer system and its cores. Game files are the user's responsibility. Supplied without games, in compliance with the law.
- No HDMI output on this configuration. Video comes out over VGA: you need a monitor that accepts it, or a converter. HDMI output requires a different expansion board, sold separately.
- No controller is included, nor a VGA cable, nor an additional microSD card.
- The CR1220 battery for the clock is not included. Without it, the date resets every time you switch off.
- No PlayStation 2, Dreamcast or Nintendo 64. The logic available on this chip cannot handle these machines: the project stops at the 8-, 16- and 32-bit generations and arcade.
- Updates are done by script, from the system menu. This is not a console that updates itself.
Compatibility
Display: monitor or TV that accepts VGA, including at 240p and 480i, or a VGA-to-HDMI converter. Controllers: USB, or an original controller on the SNAC connector. Audio: 3.5 mm stereo jack output. Power: 5 V power supply included. Real-time clock: CR1220 battery not included, hot-swappable.
Skill level required
Intermediate. No soldering, no mechanical assembly: everything arrives assembled in its case. However, you need to know how to navigate a system menu, organise a file tree on the microSD card and run an update script. Anyone expecting the experience of an off-the-shelf console will be disappointed; a tinkerer will feel right at home.

What it can really run
The MiSTer project covers the 8-, 16- and 32-bit generations and a large share of arcade, with each machine redescribed in logic rather than imitated in software. Where it stops: PlayStation 2, Dreamcast and Nintendo 64, beyond the reach of this chip. No games are provided by us or downloadable from us.
Condition on delivery: ready to plug in, not ready to play
Everything arrives assembled in its case, with a microSD card carrying the open-source system. You still need to connect a VGA display and a controller, run the update script from the menu and organise your files. Allow a first evening to get to grips with it: this is not an off-the-shelf console.
The ecosystem: what you will need to add
A CR1220 battery for the clock, a VGA cable or a converter if your display does not accept VGA, a USB controller or an original controller for the SNAC connector. HDMI output, for its part, requires a different expansion board. None of these items are in the box.

Frequently Asked Questions
🎮 Are games included with the microSD card?
No. The card contains only the open-source MiSTer system and its cores. No game files are provided, pre-installed or downloadable from our website. Supplied without games, in compliance with the law.
📺 Can I connect it to an HDMI TV?
Not directly. This configuration outputs VGA. You need either a monitor that accepts VGA at 240p and 480i, or a VGA-to-HDMI converter. Native HDMI output requires a different expansion board, sold separately.
🔌 What is the SNAC connector?
An input that lets you plug an original controller directly into the board, without a USB adapter. That is what eliminates the latency added by an adapter.
🎲 Which machines are out of reach?
PlayStation 2, Dreamcast and Nintendo 64. The logic available on this chip cannot rebuild them: the project covers the 8-, 16- and 32-bit generations and arcade.
🔋 Why a CR1220 battery?
It powers the real-time clock. It is not included: without it, the date resets every time you switch off. It is hot-swappable.
📦 What's in the box?
The Cyclone V board with its 128 MB SDRAM module and I/O expansion board, the case, a 32 GB microSD card carrying the open-source system, a Mini-USB cable and a 5 V power adapter. No CR1220 battery, controller or VGA cable.
🚚 What are the delivery times?
Delivery in 10 to 18 days, ships within 3 to 5 days. Above €150, pickup point delivery may not be offered, depending on the carrier.
🛡️ Which guarantee applies?
2-year legal guarantee of conformity. 14-day returns. French customer service, reply within 1 business day.
Why buy here rather than on a marketplace
It is a fair question. Here is the answer, straight.
Every listing is checked before publication: chip, screen, systems actually emulated, condition on delivery. Many models that come out never make it into the catalogue.
A question, a firmware problem, a return: you write, a human replies within 1 business day. In French.
The 2-year legal warranty of conformity is handled by us — not by a form on the other side of the world. And 14 days to change your mind, with no need to justify yourself.
We do not claim to be the cheapest. We claim that you will know exactly what you are buying before you pay.
