Screen protection & tempered glass

Screen protection for a handheld console answers two distinct needs: preserving the panel of a recent console with tempered glass cut to the model, or replacing the yellowed, scratched lens of a 1990s console. This page brings both together, from €3.99 to €15.99, with kits that include a carrying case.

Protective tempered glass or replacement lens: two distinct needs

Choose by exact model, not by screen size

Tempered glass isn't cut to a screen size but to a chassis: the Retroid Pocket 6 model at €4.99 follows curved edges, the one for the Retroid Pocket Flip 2 at €8.99 is designed for a clamshell format, and the AYN Thor glass at €3.99 covers two screens. The R36S and R35S kit at €9.99 and the TrimUI Smart Pro case at €15.99 add a carrying case.

9H describes hardness, not impact resistance

The 9H rating refers to a pencil hardness scale: it promises good resistance to scratches from keys or sand, not protection against a fall. On a handheld console, breakage most often comes from a corner or a hinge, not from the surface of the panel. A glass at €4.99 remains a consumable to be replaced.

What it doesn't do

  • No repair of a cracked panel: a glass placed over the top hides the damage, it does not repair it.
  • No disassembly tool supplied with the Game Boy replacement lenses, which require opening the shell.
  • No blue-light filter and no guaranteed anti-reflective treatment on these products.

Questions fréquentes

Can tempered glass from another console fit?
Rarely. The cut-outs follow the sensors, slots and edges of each chassis: a Retroid Pocket 6 glass does not fit a Retroid Pocket Flip 2, even if the screen size seems close. Order the reference that matches your console exactly.
Game Boy lens in glass or plastic, which one to choose?
The replacement lens at €4.99 comes in both materials. Plastic matches the original look and takes knocks better, but scratches very quickly. Glass stays clear for years and cleans without micro-scratches, at the cost of being more fragile if dropped.
Does the R36S kit include anything besides the glass?
Yes, the kit at €9.99 combines a tempered glass and a carrying case compatible with the R36S and R35S. The TrimUI Smart Pro case at €15.99 follows the same logic with a rigid EVA shell, which works out cheaper than the two items bought separately.
