2.8-inch laminated IPS screen for Game Boy Pocket: a bigger picture, readable anywhere
The original Game Boy Pocket screen has no backlight and becomes unreadable as soon as the light drops. This Hispeedido kit replaces it with a 2.8-inch backlit IPS panel, laminated to its glass, with an OSD menu to adjust the picture. It is aimed at hobbyists comfortable with adapting a shell.
What it does
- Larger display area: 2.8-inch diagonal, bigger than the original screen window.
- Laminated screen: the panel is bonded to its glass, with no air gap for dust to slip into.
- Adjustable backlight: play in the dark as well as in broad daylight.
- OSD menu: brightness, colour palettes and retro pixel effects are adjusted from the console.
What it doesn't do
- No shell is included. The original screen window is too small: the shell must be cut or replaced with a shell designed for a 2.8-inch laminated screen.
- Games keep the Game Boy's resolution: the picture is enlarged, not redrawn.
- It adds neither a battery nor a USB-C port and does not change the sound. A backlit screen draws more power than the original screen: battery life on AA batteries drops, especially at high brightness.
- Once bonded, the screen is hard to remove without risk: test the kit before fixing it in place.
Compatibility
Game Boy Pocket (MGB-001) only. Not suitable for the original Game Boy (DMG-01), the Game Boy Color or the Game Boy Advance, which have different screens and shells.

Intermediate to advanced level. You need to open the console (tri-wing and Phillips screwdrivers), remove the original screen, then adapt the shell: a clean cut of the screen window with a file or a cutter, or a switch to a shell designed for this format. The supplier presents the kit as installable without soldering; on laminated kits of this type, power and menu controls often go through one or more thin wires to be soldered: have a fine-tip soldering iron ready.

The job: bringing the Pocket out of the shadows
Without light from the side, the screen of an original Game Boy Pocket can no longer be read. You open the console, remove the old panel, enlarge the shell window and install this backlit screen. Once closed, the picture is bigger, has more contrast, and can be adjusted from an on-screen menu.
The part: a laminated Hispeedido screen
