2.6" IPS screen for Game Boy Pocket: finally playing without a lamp

The original screen of the Game Boy Pocket has no backlight: you need good ambient light, and aged screens get covered in dead lines. This kit replaces the screen with a 2.6" backlit IPS panel and supplies a shell designed for it, into which you transfer the console's motherboard.

What it does

• Backlight: the picture is readable in the dark, with no lamp and no reflection to hunt for.
• Large panel: 2.6", filling the whole display window.
• Matching shell supplied: no cutting in the original shell, you reassemble the console in the kit's shell.
• Sixteen colours: translucent, pastel or solid, plus a version without lens.

What it doesn't do

• The resolution remains that of the console (160 × 144): the picture is larger and brighter, not more detailed.
• The “Without lens” variant is supplied without a protective lens: provide your own.
• It cannot be installed on the original Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance or Game Boy Light.
• It does not repair a faulty motherboard, sound or buttons.

Compatibility

Game Boy Pocket (MGB-001), all regions. Not covered: original Game Boy (DMG-01), Game Boy Light, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance and SP. Check the model number on the back of the console before ordering.

Skill level required

Intermediate. You need to fully disassemble the console (tri-wing and Phillips screwdrivers), remove the original screen, connect the new screen and then refit the motherboard in the supplied shell. Depending on your console, soldering may be necessary: if you do not solder, write to our customer service before ordering.
