eXtremeRate has been making controller and console shells for ten years, and it shows in the fit. This full shell for Game Boy Color is pre-cut for IPS kits with OSD — including the slot for the adjustment button. Translucent gradient finish, buttons supplied.
What it does
- IPS + OSD cut-out: designed for kits with a built-in menu, access to the settings is already provided for.
- Buttons included: A/B, D-pad and Start/Select matched to the shell.
- Manufacturer quality: moulding tolerances well above those of generic shells — no play, no burrs.
What it doesn't do
- The IPS screen is not included. The shell is prepared to take one, but does not supply it.
- No conductive pads supplied: reuse the ones from your console, or order them separately.
- An IPS cut-out remains visible if you refit the original screen in it.
Compatibility
Game Boy Color (GBC) only. Not suitable for the original Game Boy DMG, the Pocket or the Advance.

No soldering. Full disassembly of the console with a 3.8 mm tri-wing screwdriver. Fitting an IPS kit, on the other hand, may require soldering depending on the screen model chosen.

eXtremeRate, or why not all shells are equal
A €10 generic shell closes badly, leaves a gap along the edge and creaks when you pick it up. eXtremeRate has been making shells for controllers and consoles for ten years: the moulding tolerances are in a different league. You can feel it as soon as you close the console.
Prepared for IPS kits with an OSD menu
Recent IPS kits for the Game Boy Color include a settings menu, the OSD, which needs an extra opening in the shell. This shell provides it, along with a screen window at the right dimensions. You don't have to drill, file or give up on the settings.
What the box doesn't contain
We'd rather say it up front: no IPS screen and no conductive pads. The buttons, however, are supplied and matched. If your buttons respond poorly, it's the silicone pad that needs replacing — we sell it separately. Disassembly requires a 3.8 mm tri-wing screwdriver.
