Double-sided foam tape: securing an IPS screen or a battery without screws or glue
When you reassemble a handheld console, there is always one part that isn't held by any screw: the IPS panel to wedge into the shell, the battery to keep in place, the speaker to press flat. This 1 mm acrylic foam tape does that job: it takes up small thickness gaps, absorbs vibrations and holds without running like liquid glue. 3 m roll, width of your choice from 5 to 50 mm.
What it does
- Takes up thickness gaps: the 1 mm foam fills the space between an IPS panel and the glass or shell, where a thin adhesive would leave the part loose.
- Holds without pressure points: the foam compresses, which avoids pressing on a ribbon cable or circuit during reassembly.
- Cut to size: cut strips or pads with scissors or a utility knife, in the width that matches the part.
- Widths from 5 to 50 mm: 5 to 10 mm for ribbon cables and small outlines, 25 to 50 mm to hold a battery or line the back of a shell.
What it doesn't do
- It is not a thermal adhesive: it does not conduct heat and does not replace a thermal pad under a SoC or heatsink.
- It is not repositionable: once pressed, removal requires dental floss or isopropyl alcohol, and the foam tears, leaving residue to clean.
- It does not replace a mechanical fastening: nothing structural, nothing under load (hinge, screen mount, screw thread).
- It does not stick to greasy, dusty or silicone surfaces: degreasing before application is essential.
- The supplier states a 4229P-type foam; we do not certify the manufacturing origin of this roll.
Compatibility
Generic workshop consumable: no particular console is targeted. It can be used on retro handhelds and their IPS screen kits, on replacement shells, to hold a battery or a USB-C module in place, or to secure a speaker in a controller. It is not intended for permanent outdoor use or for bonds under tension.
Skill level required
No soldering, no shell cutting. You need scissors or a utility knife, a lint-free cloth and isopropyl alcohol to prepare both surfaces. Apply dry, press for a few seconds, and let the bond set before reassembling. Allow a generous margin: cutting a strip too short is quicker to fix than a peeling part.
In the box
- 1 roll of double-sided foam adhesive tape, 3 m long, 1 mm thick, in the chosen width (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40 or 50 mm).

The job: the part that isn't held by any screw
On a retro handheld, disassembly goes smoothly right up until reassembly. The IPS panel is thinner than the original screen and floats by a few tenths of a millimetre. The new battery no longer has the cradle that held it. The speaker pops out of its housing as soon as you close the shell. This tape solves all three cases at once: cut a strip, degrease, press, and the part stays put.
The material: foam, not a film
A thin double-sided adhesive bonds two perfectly flat surfaces, nothing more. Here, the 1 mm thickness works for you: it fills out unevenness, compresses instead of pressing on a ribbon cable, and dampens a speaker's vibrations. The roll is 3 m long and comes in eight widths, from 5 mm to run along a ribbon cable to 50 mm for an entire shell back.
The limitation: better said before than after
This tape is not thermal: it does not conduct heat and has no place between a SoC and a heatsink. It is not repositionable either: peeling off a strip takes dental floss, isopropyl alcohol and patience, and the foam leaves residue. Finally, it never replaces a screw on a part under load. Used for its intended purpose, it holds for years; used outside it, it gives way.

Frequently Asked Questions
🔧 Do I need to solder to use this tape?
No. No soldering, no shell cutting: scissors or a utility knife are enough to cut the strip to the length you need.
🎮 Which consoles is it compatible with?
It is a generic workshop consumable: it is not tied to any model. It is used on retro handhelds, IPS screen kits, replacement shells, controllers and arcade sticks.
📐 Which width should I choose?
5 to 10 mm to run along a ribbon cable or edge a screen, 15 to 25 mm for a speaker or a USB-C module, 30 to 50 mm to hold a battery in place or line the back of a shell. Each roll is 3 m long and 1 mm thick.
🔥 Can it be used as a thermal pad?
No. It is an insulating acrylic foam: it does not conduct heat. For a SoC or heatsink, you need a dedicated thermal pad.
🧹 How do I remove it without damaging the part?
Saw through behind the strip with dental floss, then use isopropyl alcohol to dissolve the residue. Allow a few minutes: the foam tears and always leaves material to clean off.
📦 What is in the box?
One roll of double-sided foam adhesive tape: 3 m long, 1 mm thick, in the width you select.
🚚 What are the delivery times?
Delivery in 10 to 18 days, ships within 3 to 5 days.
🛡️ Which guarantee applies?
2-year legal guarantee of conformity. 14-day returns. French-speaking customer service, reply within 1 business day.
