GameCube HDMI adapter: using the Digital AV port, without opening the console
The first GameCube consoles, model DOL-001, have a Digital AV port at the back that carries the picture in digital form. This BitFunx adapter with GCVideo firmware plugs into it and outputs that signal over HDMI, with no soldering or disassembly. It is the simplest way to connect a GameCube DOL-001 to a modern TV.
What it does
- Digital signal to HDMI: the picture is taken from the Digital AV port, without going through analogue.
- Remote-controlled OSD menu: picture settings from the supplied infrared remote control.
- Line doubler and scanlines: the 240p picture can be doubled to 480p, with an optional scanline effect.
- Firmware updated via USB: the USB port is only used for updates.
What it doesn't do
- It does not work on the GameCube DOL-101, which has no Digital AV port (see the table below).
- It does not work on a Wii, even in GameCube mode: the Wii does not have this port.
- It is not a scaler: the picture keeps the resolution produced by the console (optionally doubled). It is the TV that enlarges it.
- It does not make 480p available in games that do not offer it.
DOL-001 or DOL-101: check your GameCube before ordering
Nintendo sold two versions of the GameCube. Only the first one, the DOL-001, has the Digital AV port this adapter plugs into. The DOL-101, the revised model sold from around 2004, no longer has this port.
| DOL-001 (first model) | DOL-101 (revised model) | |
|---|---|---|
| Model number | “DOL-001” on the label under the console | “DOL-101” on the label under the console |
| Video ports at the back | 2: Multi AV and Digital AV | Only 1: Multi AV |
| This adapter | ✅ Compatible | ❌ Not compatible |
| To get HDMI | Plug in the adapter, no tools | Internal HDMI kit, soldered |
The quickest check: look at the back of the console. Two video ports side by side means a DOL-001. Only one means a DOL-101: you then need a soldered internal HDMI kit, or write to us for advice.
Retro+ or BitFunx: two adapters for the same port
- Retro+ Digital HD adapter: translucent purple plastic housing, infrared remote and HDMI cable included. The most affordable choice.
- BitFunx GCVideo adapter: metal housing, open-source GCVideo firmware updated over USB, settings menu with line doubler and scanlines, holding bracket, HDMI and USB cables included. The most complete.
Both only work on a GameCube DOL-001.
Skill level required
None. The adapter plugs into the Digital AV port and the HDMI cable goes to the TV. The supplied bracket helps hold the assembly at the back of the console. An optional firmware update requires a computer and the supplied USB cable.
In the box
- 1 BitFunx HDMI adapter with metal housing, silver grey.
- 1 infrared remote control.
- 1 holding bracket.
- 1 USB cable and 1 HDMI cable.

The job: plug it in, that's all
On a GameCube DOL-001, the Digital AV port was waiting for an original cable that has become rare. This adapter plugs straight into it: you secure it with its bracket, run an HDMI cable to the TV, and the console displays a clean digital picture. No screwdriver, no soldering iron, and the console stays original.
The part: a GCVideo adapter by BitFunx
GCVideo is open-source firmware written to use the GameCube's Digital AV port. BitFunx builds it into a compact metal housing, with a remote control for its OSD menu: line doubler for 240p, scanlines, picture settings. The USB port is only used for firmware updates, not for power.
The support: checking your console before buying
It all comes down to the model number: DOL-001, with two video ports at the back, is compatible; DOL-101, with only one port, is not. If in doubt, send us a photo of the back of your console: our French-speaking customer service replies within 1 working day. For 480p, enable progressive mode in each game that offers it.

Frequently Asked Questions
🔧 Do I need to open or solder the console?
No. The adapter plugs into the Digital AV port at the back of the GameCube DOL-001. No disassembly, no soldering.
🔍 DOL-001 or DOL-101: how do I know which GameCube I have?
Turn the console over: the model number is printed on the label underneath. An even quicker check: at the back, a DOL-001 has two video ports side by side (Multi AV and Digital AV), a DOL-101 has only one.
❌ I have a DOL-101: what can I do?
This adapter cannot plug into it: the Digital AV port does not exist on that model. The only way to HDMI is an internal kit soldered to the motherboard, such as our Hispeedido internal HDMI kit. Write to us before ordering to confirm compatibility with your console.
🆚 Retro+ or BitFunx: which one should I choose?
Both plug into the same Digital AV port of a DOL-001. The Retro+ is the most affordable, in a plastic housing with remote and HDMI cable. The BitFunx is the most complete: metal housing, GCVideo firmware updated over USB, scanlines, holding bracket.
🕹️ Does it work on a Wii?
No. The Wii has no Digital AV port, even in GameCube mode.
📦 What is in the box?
The HDMI adapter, an infrared remote, a holding bracket, a USB cable and an HDMI cable.
🖥️ Will the picture be in 1080p?
No. The adapter transmits the picture at the resolution produced by the console, optionally doubled for 240p. It is the TV that scales it to its screen size.
💾 What is the USB port for?
Only for updating the GCVideo firmware from a computer. In normal use, only the HDMI cable is connected.
🚚 What are the delivery times?
Delivery in 10 to 18 days, dispatched within 3 to 5 days.
🛡️ Which guarantee applies?
2-year legal guarantee of conformity. Returns within 14 days. French customer service, reply within 1 working day.
