HDMI adapter for Wii: connecting the console to a recent TV
Recent TVs often no longer have a component or SCART input. This adapter plugs directly into the AV output of the Wii and connects it to an HDMI input: no more need for the original AV cable or an intermediate box.
What it does
- Direct connection: the adapter slots into the AV multi-out port at the back of the console.
- Component signal converted: it uses the Wii's component output, the best one it offers, and transmits it over HDMI.
- NTSC and PAL: European, American and Japanese consoles.
What it doesn't do
- It does not add detail: the Wii outputs 480p at best, and the image remains the console's own, enlarged by the TV.
- It does not work with the Wii Mini (RVL-201), which does not output a component signal.
- It is of no use on a Wii U, which already has an HDMI output.
- The HDMI cable is not guaranteed in the box.
Compatibility
Wii RVL-001 (original model, horizontal or vertical), NTSC and PAL. Not compatible with the Wii Mini RVL-201. To get 480p, set the Wii to “EDTV/HDTV (480p)” in the display settings after connecting.

The job: plugging the Wii back into the living-room TV
The Wii comes out of the cupboard, but the TV only has HDMI sockets left. You unplug the original AV cable, plug the adapter in its place, run an HDMI cable to the TV and switch the console to 480p in its settings. No tools, no extra box on the TV stand.
The part: starting from the Wii's best signal
The Wii can output a component signal in 480p, clearly better than the composite signal of the cable originally supplied. The adapter relies on this signal and converts it to HDMI. It does not create high definition: it simply avoids degrading the image between the console and the screen.
Support: the right settings
After connecting, switch the Wii to EDTV/HDTV (480p) and check the 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio in its settings. If the image does not appear or the sound is missing, our customer service replies within 1 business day to find the cause with you.

No. The adapter plugs into the AV port at the back of the Wii, in place of the original cable.
