USB-C power board for PS1 Fat: the console on a USB-C charger
In the PS1 Fat, the power supply is an internal board connected to the mains, whose components have aged along with the console. This USB-C power board (PS1PSU) takes its place: the console is then powered by a USB-C Power Delivery charger at 12 V / 3 A.
What it does
- Replaces the original power board: it screws inside the PS1, in place of the old one.
- USB-C Power Delivery input: the console plugs into a USB-C charger that supplies 12 V at 3 A.
- No more mains cord: a common USB-C charger is enough, provided it offers 12 V.
- Japanese or American console without a transformer: with a 100-240 V charger, the mains voltage no longer matters.
What it doesn't do
- The USB-C charger and USB-C cable are not included.
- A charger that doesn't offer 12 V over Power Delivery is not suitable: many phone chargers stop at 5 V and 9 V.
- It is not suitable for the PS One (compact model), whose power supply is external.
- It does not fix a fault located elsewhere than in the power supply (motherboard, CD drive).
Compatibility
PS1 Fat (first generation, grey), as a replacement for the internal power board. The layout of this board varies between console revisions: compare the photo with your PS1's board before ordering. Not compatible with the PS One.
Skill level
You need to open the PS1, disconnect and unscrew the original power board, then screw this one in its place. Work with the console unplugged from the mains. Have a Phillips screwdriver ready. Intermediate level.

In the PS1 Fat, the power supply is an internal board connected to the mains, whose components have aged along with the console. You open the console, unscrew the original board and screw the USB-C board in its place. Once closed again, the PS1 plugs into a USB-C charger, like a laptop.

The PS1PSU board accepts a 12 V / 3 A USB-C Power Delivery charger and replaces the original board with no mains cord. With a 100-240 V charger, a Japanese or American PS1 can also be plugged in in Europe, without a transformer. It is designed for the PS1 Fat, not the PS One.
