Butterfly keycap: one key on your keyboard becomes a one-of-a-kind piece
A mechanical keyboard can be customised key by key. This keycap is cast by hand in translucent resin, with a butterfly set inside the material. It fits a keyboard with an MX stem and replaces a key you look at every day — Esc, Enter, or whichever you choose. Two profiles in the range: SA, tall and sculpted, or OEM, the standard height.
What it does
- Fitted in ten seconds: the stem is the cross-shaped MX format, and the keycap pushes onto the original switch with no tools or soldering.
- Hand-cast: translucent resin, butterfly set in the material, no two pieces exactly alike.
- Two profiles: SA for a tall, domed key that stands out from the keyboard, OEM to stay level with the neighbouring keys.
What it doesn't do
- This is not a keycap set: the order covers one keycap, not a full keyboard.
- The keyboard is not supplied, and the key only fits a switch with a cross-shaped MX stem (Cherry MX and Gateron, Kailh, Outemu, TTC compatibles).
- Not compatible with scissor-switch keyboards, flat laptop keyboards, low-profile models or Topre switches.
- The resin lets the backlight through, but no legend is engraved: no character lights up.
- Handmade production: shade, butterfly position and micro-bubbles vary from one piece to the next. This is not a defect, it is the method.
Compatibility
Any mechanical keyboard whose switches have a cross-shaped MX stem: Cherry MX and the common clones (Gateron, Kailh, Outemu, TTC). Choose the SA profile if your set is already SA, the OEM profile if your keyboard still has its original keycaps — mixing the two creates a visible height difference along the row. Not suitable for scissor-switch keyboards, low-profile keyboards or Topre switches.
Skill level required
None. Remove the original key, fit the new one. A keycap puller avoids scratching the neighbouring keycaps; failing that, two fingers are enough if you pull straight up without forcing it sideways. Keep the original key: it remains the only one with the printed legend.

The keyboard is part of the setup

Hand-cast, not mass-moulded
The resin is poured by hand around the motif, then sanded and polished. That is why no piece looks exactly like the previous one: the shade varies, the butterfly never sits at the same angle, and a few micro-bubbles remain trapped in the material. On an industrial part this would be a reject; here it is the signature of the process.
Two things to check before ordering
They are simple. Your keyboard must be mechanical, with cross-shaped MX-stem switches: that is the case for the vast majority of gaming keyboards, and never for a scissor-switch keyboard or a laptop. And you receive one keycap, not a set: decide which key you want to replace, then pick the matching profile, SA or OEM.
