THE400 Mini: the Atari 400 at half size, with 25 games ready to play
THE400 Mini reproduces the Atari 400 computer at half its original size and emulates Atari's entire 8-bit range: 400 and 800, XL and XE series, and the 5200 console. It comes with 25 games, including Star Raiders II, M.U.L.E., Miner 2049er and Boulder Dash, the THECXSTICK joystick that recreates the CX40, and a 720p HDMI output.
What it does
- 25 built-in games: Airball, Asteroids, Basketball, BattleZone, Berzerk, Boulder Dash, Bristles, Capture the Flag, Centipede, Crystal Castles, Elektraglide, Encounter, Flip and Flop, Henry's House, Hover Bovver, Lee, Millipede, Miner 2049er, Missile Command, M.U.L.E., O'Riley's Mine, Seven Cities of Gold, Star Raiders II, Wavy Navy and Yoomp!.
- THECXSTICK joystick: a recreation of the CX40 with seven extra function buttons, 1.8 m USB cable, left- or right-handed mode.
- Save and rewind: four save slots per game, rewind of up to 30 seconds.
- 720p HDMI output: at 50 or 60 Hz, with twelve decorative borders around the picture.
- Five USB ports: to add joysticks, controllers, a USB keyboard or a USB stick.
What it doesn't do
- The keyboard is decorative: it doesn't work. A virtual keyboard appears on screen, and a USB keyboard can take over.
- The cartridge flap is decorative: THE400 Mini doesn't read any cartridges.
- The USB mains adapter is not included: you need a 5 V 1 A adapter.
- Only one joystick included, and it's wired: multiplayer requires additional USB controllers.
- No floppy disk or cassette drive: additional games load from a USB stick, not included.
- No built-in screen: you need an HDMI TV or monitor.
Compatibility
HDMI TV or monitor that supports 720p. USB-C power via the included cable, with a 5 V 1 A USB mains adapter (not included). Up to four compatible USB controllers, including the included THECXSTICK. FAT32-formatted USB stick, not included, for your own compatible games.
Getting started
Connect the console to your TV with the included HDMI cable, plug the power cable into a 5 V 1 A USB mains adapter, then plug the THECXSTICK into the left USB port, the one for player 1. On start-up, the 25 games scroll past in a carousel: pick one and play.

Finding an Atari 400 in good condition, plus its drive and games, takes time and space. THE400 Mini recreates its silhouette at half size and emulates Atari's entire 8-bit range, from the 400 to the XE, plus the 5200 console. Connect it via HDMI, plug in the joystick, and the 25 games scroll through the menu.
25 games, and room for yours
Star Raiders II, M.U.L.E., Miner 2049er, Boulder Dash, Crystal Castles: all 25 games are built in under licence. Each one has four save slots and a 30-second rewind, which makes the games of that era less punishing. A FAT32-formatted USB stick lets you add your own compatible games.
A CX40 joystick brought up to date
The THECXSTICK keeps the shape, texture and rubberised stick of the CX40, and discreetly adds seven function buttons for navigating the menus. It's wired, with a 1.8 m USB cable, and switches to left-handed mode at the press of a button. The console's keyboard, on the other hand, is decorative: a virtual keyboard takes over.
