HDMI converter for Saturn: connecting the console to a modern screen
The Saturn was not designed for HDMI TVs. This converter plugs into its AV port, takes the S-Video signal, cleaner than composite, and converts it to HDMI with a stated 1080p output. A selector lets you choose between the original 4:3 format and a 16:9 display.
What it does
- S-Video input: separate luminance and colour, a sharper image than the composite of the original cable.

- It does not reach the quality of an RGB chain: S-Video remains a notch below an RGB cable combined with a dedicated upscaler.
- It does not add detail: the Saturn's image is enlarged, not redrawn.
- In 16:9, the image is stretched: 4:3 respects the games' proportions.
- It needs USB power: a USB port on the TV or a charger will do.
Compatibility
Saturn, via its original AV port and its S-Video signal. It is of no use for consoles from other brands, and does not replace an RGB cable if you are aiming for the best possible image.

The job: bringing out the Saturn without hunting for a SCART socket
The living-room TV no longer has a SCART socket and the Saturn is waiting in its box. You plug the converter into the console's AV port, an HDMI cable to the screen, a USB cable to power it, and choose the picture format. No console settings, no tools.
The part: S-Video, a good compromise
