Translucent shell for PS2 Slim: re-dressing the console, seeing inside
A PS2 Slim that has lived a little bears its scratches, chips and broken clips. This translucent replacement shell replaces the original housing and lets you see the electronics. It comes in two versions, because PS2 Slim consoles from the SCPH-7xxxx and SCPH-9xxxx series do not have the same housing.
What it does
- Replaces the damaged housing: scratches, chips or broken clips go away with the old shell.
- Translucent look: black, white or purple, the electronics remain visible.
- Two versions: one for the SCPH-7xxxx series, one for the SCPH-9xxxx series.
What it doesn't do
- The SCPH-7xxxx and SCPH-9xxxx versions are not interchangeable: the wrong version will not fit.
- It is not suitable for “fat” PS2 consoles (SCPH-1xxxx to 5xxxx).
- It does not repair the drive, the fan or the power supply: only the housing parts change.
- The internal parts are transferred from your original console.
Compatibility
PS2 Slim from the SCPH-7xxxx series or the SCPH-9xxxx series, depending on the chosen variant. Not covered: “fat” PS2, PSX (DESR), and any console whose model number does not start with SCPH-7 or SCPH-9. The model number is under the console: check it before ordering.

Intermediate. No soldering. You need to fully disassemble the console (Phillips screwdriver, screws hidden under the feet and labels), transfer the motherboard, the drive and the internal parts into the new shell, then reassemble while respecting the routing of the ribbon cables.

The job: a PS2 Slim like new, see-through
A PS2 Slim often works very well under a tired shell: scratches, broken clips, yellowed plastic. Disassemble it, transfer the motherboard, drive and internal parts into the translucent housing, and close it up. The console keeps working as before and gets a new look, with the electronics visible through the plastic.
The part: two housings for two series
Behind the PS2 Slim name hide different housings: the SCPH-7xxxx series and the SCPH-9xxxx series do not share the same shell. Hence two versions, in translucent black, white or purple. Simply read the model number under the console to choose the right one, and so avoid the most frequent return on this type of part.
Before opening: what to plan for
The shell change is done without soldering, with a precision Phillips screwdriver and a plastic spudger.
