N64 NTSC RGB mod: leave the blurry composite picture behind
As standard, the N64 outputs composite or S-Video, and the picture suffers. This TicKnot RGB mod kit adds an RGB output to an N64 NTSC, for a much sharper picture on a TV or converter that accepts RGB. The mod is soldered inside the console: this is an advanced-level installation.
What it does
- RGB output: a sharper picture and more vivid colours than composite.
- Three versions: mod only, RGB cable only, or mod and RGB cable together.
- For N64 NTSC: the mod is designed for NTSC consoles.
What it doesn't do
- It does not work on a PAL N64.
- It does not output HDMI: the output remains analogue, you need a TV or converter that accepts RGB.
- The RGB cable alone does nothing on an unmodified N64: the mod must be installed.
- It cannot be installed without soldering.
Compatibility
N64 NTSC only. PAL N64 consoles are not supported. Analogue RGB output, to a TV or converter that accepts RGB.
Skill level
Advanced level: you need to open the console (gamebit screwdriver), solder the mod onto the motherboard and be able to check your work before reassembling. Soldering iron, solder and flux required.
