GuliKit SD05 joystick: replacing a drifting stick on Steam Deck OLED
Analogue stick drift most often comes from wear on the potentiometer tracks. The GuliKit SD05 module replaces this mechanism with a Hall effect sensor: a magnet and a probe measure the stick position without friction. It is designed for the Steam Deck OLED and fits in place of the original joystick.
What it does
- Contactless measurement: the Hall effect eliminates the friction of resistive tracks, the leading cause of drift in conventional sticks.
- Replacement module: it takes the place of the original Steam Deck OLED joystick, screwed in and connected, without soldering.
- Three pack sizes: standard, pack of 5 or pack of 10 for a repair workshop.
What it doesn't do
- It is not suitable for the Steam Deck LCD: the SD05 module is designated for the OLED version.
- If the drift comes from a damaged ribbon cable or from the motherboard, changing the stick will not fix it.
- The console is not included, and opening the Steam Deck is done at your own risk.
- Plan to recalibrate the sticks after fitting.

Skill level required
No soldering. You need to remove the back shell of the Steam Deck, disconnect the battery, then unscrew and disconnect the joystick module before fitting the new one. Have a precision Phillips screwdriver, a plastic spudger and fine-nose pliers ready. Intermediate level. After reassembly, recalibrate the sticks in the SteamOS settings.

The job: getting rid of drift
A character moving on its own, a camera turning without touching the stick: that is drift. On the Steam Deck OLED, the joystick is a module that can be replaced without soldering. You open the back shell, disconnect the battery, change the module and recalibrate. The console gets a stable neutral point back.
The part: a friction-free sensor
A conventional stick measures its position with resistive tracks that wear with every movement. The GuliKit SD05 uses the Hall effect: a magnet and a probe, with no contact between them. GuliKit is a manufacturer known to repairers for its Hall effect sticks, and the SD05 is its model for the Steam Deck OLED.
