GBS-Control Mini: displaying an RGB console on an HDMI screen

Recent TVs have lost the SCART socket and handle the 240p signals of older consoles poorly. This GBS-Control Mini box receives an RGBS (RGB SCART), YPbPr (component) or VGA signal and outputs it as HDMI or VGA. It is based on GBS-Control, an open-source firmware dedicated to scaling retro consoles.

What it does

• Three analogue inputs: RGBS, YPbPr and VGA.
• Two outputs: HDMI for a recent TV or screen, VGA for a PC monitor.
• GBS-Control firmware: open-source project dedicated to retro console signals, including 240p.
• Acrylic case: translucent, in white, orange or blue.

What it doesn't do

• It accepts neither composite (yellow plug) nor S-Video: only RGBS, YPbPr and VGA inputs are provided.
• No video cable is included: you need an RGB SCART, component or VGA cable suited to your console, and an HDMI cable.
• It scales the picture to the screen, it does not remaster it: a 240p game remains a 240p game.
• The “Without power supply” variant assumes you already have a compatible power supply: if in doubt, write to us before ordering.

Compatibility

Any console that outputs an RGB SCART, component (YPbPr) or VGA signal. Examples: Mega Drive via RGB SCART, Dreamcast via VGA, PS2 via component or RGB SCART. Not covered: consoles that only output composite or RF, such as the original NES, unless RGB-modded.

Skill level required

No soldering, no disassembly: the console cable goes into the input, an HDMI cable goes to the screen, and the box plugs into its power supply. You do, however, need the right video cable for your console, and a little time to adjust the picture settings. Beginner level.
