Description complète
Complete Game Boy DMG IPS-ready shell: new bodywork for your 1989 console
A 1989 Game Boy carries thirty-seven years of scratches, yellowing and tired plastic. This kit replaces the entire shell — front, back, battery cover — and it is pre-cut for an IPS screen. Buttons and new conductive pads are supplied: the whole feel of the console becomes crisp again.
What it does
- Complete kit: front shell, back shell, battery cover, A/B buttons, D-pad, Start/Select and conductive silicone pads.
- IPS cut-out already done: the screen window matches the dimensions of modern IPS kits, no Dremel cutting.
- 13 colours: opaque, transparent, and two glow-in-the-dark shades.
What it doesn't do
- The screen is not included. This is a shell: you need a separate IPS kit, or you can reuse your original screen — but in that case the IPS cut-out will remain visible.
- No electronics supplied: no motherboard, no speaker, no battery contacts. You reuse the ones from your console.
- Full disassembly of the console is required — you'll need a 3.8 mm tri-wing screwdriver.
Compatibility
Original Game Boy DMG-01, all revisions. Not suitable for the Game Boy Pocket, Color or Advance: the chassis is specific to the 1989 model.
Skill level required
No soldering, but a full disassembly. You need a 3.8 mm tri-wing screwdriver — we sell one in the Workshop section. Allow 30 to 45 minutes for a first build, taking care not to force the screen ribbon cable.

A 1989 console hasn't only aged on the inside
You fit an IPS screen, a USB-C battery, a new amp — and the console is still yellowed, scratched, with buttons that stick. The shell is the one part nobody replaces, even though it's the only one you see and touch. This kit fixes both in one go: the exterior and the feel.
The IPS cut-out already done: one pitfall less
Enlarging a DMG's screen window with a file or a Dremel is the step where most first mods go wrong: an uneven edge stays visible forever. Here the cut-out is moulded to the dimensions of current IPS kits. You fit the screen, close it up, and the finish is clean.
What you need alongside it
The shell contains no screen or electronics: get an IPS kit if you're fitting one, and a 3.8 mm tri-wing screwdriver to open the console — both are in our catalogue. Allow 30 to 45 minutes for a first build. Our French-speaking customer service replies within one business day if you get stuck.

Frequently Asked Questions
🔧 Do I need to solder to fit this shell?
No. Replacing the shell requires no soldering. Only fitting an IPS screen, if you add one, may require it depending on the kit model.
🎮 Which Game Boy models is it compatible with?
Only the original Game Boy DMG-01, the 1989 model. Not the Pocket, the Color or the Advance: their chassis are different.
✂️ Do I need to cut the shell for an IPS screen?
No, that's the whole point: the screen window is already moulded to the dimensions of modern IPS kits. No file, no Dremel.
📺 Is the screen included?
No. This is a shell: screen, motherboard, speaker and battery contacts must be taken from your console or ordered separately.
🧰 What tools do I need?
A 3.8 mm tri-wing screwdriver to open the console, and a precision Phillips screwdriver. Both are available in our Workshop section.
⏱️ How long does fitting take?
30 to 45 minutes for a first build. The step to take care over is the screen ribbon cable: never force it.
🚚 What are the delivery times?
Delivery in 10 to 18 days, ships within 3 to 5 days.
🛡️ What guarantee applies?
2-year legal guarantee of conformity. 14-day returns. French customer service, reply within 1 business day.
