Description complète
Composite AV cable: plugging an original Xbox back into a TV
The first Xbox is rarely resold complete: the power supply comes along, the video lead almost never. This cable takes the console's proprietary AV port and brings it back to three classic RCA plugs: yellow composite video, red and white stereo audio. Enough to play again on a flat TV with an AV input as well as on a CRT screen.
What it does
- Picture and sound from a single socket: composite video and stereo audio both go through the console's AV connector.
- CRT-friendly: the three RCA plugs fit any AV input on a tube TV, a monitor or an SD capture card.
- A replacement lead: replaces the missing AV cable of a second-hand console, with nothing to open and nothing to solder.
What it doesn't do
- It doesn't do high definition. Composite is limited to standard definition: no 720p, no HDMI.
- It doesn't improve or convert the signal — it is neither an HDMI adapter nor an upscaler.
- It is not a component cable (YPbPr), not a VGA cable, and it carries no optical audio.
- It doesn't fit the AV port of an Xbox 360: that connector is different and needs its own cable.
- The exact length is not stated by the manufacturer — so we don't advertise one.
Compatibility
Stated by the manufacturer for the original Xbox, the 2001 console with the proprietary AV port. No compatibility with the Xbox 360, whose AV connector has a different shape, nor with the Xbox One, Series S and Series X, which no longer have an analogue output. Nothing to do with consoles from other brands either: the connector is specific.
Skill required
None. No disassembly, no soldering, no tools: the connector slides into the AV port at the back of the console, and only fits one way round. On the TV side, you plug the yellow into the video input, the red and white into the audio inputs, then select the matching AV source.
In the box
- 1 AV cable for the original Xbox: proprietary AV connector on one end, 3 RCA plugs (yellow, red, white) on the other.

The 2001 console almost always turns up without its video lead
An original Xbox picked up at a flea market or a car boot sale rarely arrives complete. The power supply is part of the console, but the AV cable goes astray. And since the console's port is proprietary, no lead from the cable drawer fits it. This cable settles the matter for a few euros, without having to buy a complete second-hand bundle.
Three RCA plugs, and every screen becomes an option again
Composite remains the most universal format in the living room. A yellow, red and white input exists on tube TVs, on many flat TVs and on entry-level capture cards. That is what lets you plug the console into the CRT in the attic, into the second TV or into a monitor, when the living room's only HDMI socket is already taken.
What a composite cable won't give you back
Better said before you buy: composite tops out at standard definition. It converts nothing, upscales nothing and replaces neither a component cable nor the VGA output that some of the machine's games know how to use. If you are after the best possible picture on a modern screen, this is not the cable you need. It is made to plug the console back in simply, on a screen that has kept its RCA sockets.

Frequently Asked Questions
🔌 Which socket on the console does it plug into?
Into the Xbox's proprietary AV port, at the back of the case. The connector is keyed: it only fits one way round.
🎮 Which consoles are covered?
The original Xbox, the 2001 one. The Xbox 360's AV port has a different shape and needs its own dedicated cable; the Xbox One, Series S and Series X have no analogue output at all any more.
📺 What picture quality do you get?
Standard definition. Composite carries neither 480p nor 720p, and it doesn't improve the console's original signal.
🖥️ Does it work on a CRT TV?
Yes, that is its most common use: the three RCA plugs connect to the AV input of a tube TV, a monitor or an SD capture card.
🎚️ Does it replace a component or VGA cable?
No. This cable only outputs composite. The Xbox's progressive modes and VGA output go through other leads, which are not supplied here.
📦 What's in the box?
One AV cable: AV connector on the console side, three RCA plugs — yellow, red and white — on the TV side. The length is not stated by the manufacturer.
🚚 What are the delivery times?
Delivery in 10 to 18 days, ships within 3 to 5 days.
🛡️ What guarantee applies?
2-year legal guarantee of conformity. 14-day returns. French-speaking customer service, reply within 1 business day.
