Description complète
Panasonic CR2032 batteries: the Saturn gets its memory and clock back
A Saturn that asks for the language and time every time it is switched on, and loses its internal saves, has a flat battery. That battery is a CR2032, the same format found on many boards and cartridges. These 3 V lithium coin cells from Panasonic are sold in packs of 5, 10 or 20.
What it does
- CR2032 format: 20 mm in diameter, 3.2 mm thick, the reference for the Saturn's backup and clock battery.
- 3 V lithium Panasonic: a recognised battery brand, at the voltage the backup memory expects.
- Three packs: 5, 10 or 20 batteries depending on the variant.
What it does not do
- Never put one in a Dreamcast: it uses a rechargeable ML2032 battery and a charging circuit. A CR2032 is not rechargeable: charging it risks the battery leaking or swelling.
- These are bare batteries, without solder tabs: on a cartridge or board where the battery is soldered, you need tabs or a holder, plus soldering. Neither tabs nor holder are included.
- Changing the battery erases what it was powering: the Saturn's internal memory and clock, a cartridge's save.
- They are not rechargeable and do not replace any handheld console battery.
Compatibility
Saturn (battery hatch at the back of the console), and any board or cartridge whose original battery bears the CR2032 reference: order the reference printed on the battery you remove. Not suitable for the Dreamcast (rechargeable ML2032 battery), nor for slots designed for the thinner CR2025.
Skill level
On a Saturn: no tools, the battery is changed through the rear hatch with the console switched off. Beginner level. On a cartridge or board with a soldered battery: opening, then soldering tabs or a holder, with a fine-tip iron. Never solder directly onto the body of a coin cell. Intermediate level.
In the box
- 5, 10 or 20 Panasonic CR2032 3 V lithium coin cells, depending on the pack chosen.
Keep out of reach of children: swallowing a coin cell is a medical emergency. Do not puncture, heat or recharge. Take to a collection point at end of life.

The routine: a Saturn that never forgets
A Saturn that asks for the language and time every time it is switched on has a flat battery. You open the rear hatch, replace the CR2032 and set the clock one last time: the console keeps its settings and internal saves again.
The part: a Panasonic-brand CR2032
The CR2032 measures 20 mm in diameter and 3.2 mm thick and delivers 3 V. These Panasonic lithium batteries are sold in packs of 5, 10 or 20, for the Saturn as well as for boards and cartridges that use this format. They are not rechargeable.
Our help: the right battery in the right place
Just one rule: the reference printed on the original battery. And one exception to remember: never a CR2032 in a Dreamcast, which recharges its battery. Unsure about your console or cartridge? Our customer service replies within one business day.

Frequently Asked Questions
🎮 Where is the Saturn's battery?
Under the hatch at the back of the console. It can be changed without tools, with the console switched off.
⚠️ Can I put it in a Dreamcast?
No, never. The Dreamcast uses a rechargeable ML2032 battery and a charging circuit. A CR2032 is not rechargeable: charging it risks leaking or swelling.
💾 Will I lose my saves?
Changing the battery erases what it was powering: the Saturn's internal memory and clock, a cartridge's save. You will then need to set the language and time again.
🔧 Do I need to solder?
Not on a Saturn. On a cartridge or board where the battery is soldered, yes: these batteries are bare, so you need tabs or a holder, which are not included.
📏 Can I use it in place of a CR2025?
No: the CR2032 is thicker (3.2 mm versus 2.5 mm). Stick to the reference printed on the original battery.
