BlueRetro adapter for GameCube: a modern Bluetooth controller, four colours to choose from
Original GameCube controllers are getting rare and their sticks wear out. This BlueRetro adapter by RetroScaler (reference RSBL-231103) plugs in place of the wired controller on a GameCube and receives a modern Bluetooth controller: PS3, PS4, PS5, Switch Pro or GameSir T4 Pro. Four colours: transparent, translucent black, black or grey.
What it does
- BlueRetro firmware: free (open source) firmware on an ESP32 chip, which recognises a wide list of Bluetooth controllers and can be updated.
- Button remapping: button assignment is set from the BlueRetro web interface, in a browser that supports Web Bluetooth.
- Four colours: to match the adapter to the console.
- No work on the console: plugs into the controller port, without disassembly or soldering.
What it doesn't do
- It only handles Bluetooth controllers: a controller with a 2.4 GHz USB dongle, or a first-generation Xbox One controller without Bluetooth, will not connect.
- The Switch Pro controller's triggers are digital: games that use the progressive travel of the GameCube's L and R triggers lose that nuance with it.
- The PS3 controller requires an additional pairing step, via USB cable from a computer.
- Bluetooth adds latency: low, but higher than that of a wired controller.
Compatibility
Console: GameCube, all regions, on the controller port. Bluetooth controllers listed by the manufacturer: PS3, PS4, PS5, Switch Pro and GameSir T4 Pro. Use on the GameCube ports of a Wii is not covered by this page, nor are controllers with a USB receiver.

Beginner. Plug the adapter into the controller port, put the controller in pairing mode, and the connection is established. Remapping is set from a computer or phone that supports Web Bluetooth. No tools, no disassembly, no soldering.

The job: plug in, pair, play
You remove the wired controller, plug the adapter in its place and put the Bluetooth controller in pairing mode. The GameCube receives the commands as if from an original controller. You play without a cable across the living room, with a modern controller, without having to hunt down a vintage controller that has become rare and is often worn.
The part: BlueRetro, a free firmware
BlueRetro is open source firmware that runs on an ESP32 chip. RetroScaler builds it into a housing with a GameCube connector, available here in four colours. Each firmware version can extend the list of recognised controllers and refine the settings, without changing anything on the console side.
Support: choosing the right controller
