BitFunx translucent shell for N64: a new housing that shows off the electronics
A second-hand N64 often arrives scratched, yellowed or with broken mounting tabs. This BitFunx replacement shell gives it a new translucent housing, in ten colours: you transfer your console's motherboard into it, with a screwdriver, without soldering.
What it does
- New housing: replaces a scratched, yellowed shell or one with broken mounts.
- Ten translucent colours: glacier blue, red, cherry red, blue, cyan, green, two purples, black and orange.
- No-solder transfer: motherboard, shielding, power supply and heatsink move from one shell to the other with a screwdriver.
What it doesn't do
- This is not a console. No electronics are included: everything comes from your N64.
- It does not fix any electronic fault or a faulty controller port.
- On a translucent shell, the shielding and the inside of the console remain visible.
- The N64's region lock relies partly on the shape of the cartridge slot: on a European N64, check that your cartridges fit before final reassembly.
Compatibility
N64 home console (NUS-001). Not compatible with the 64DD, N64 controllers or consoles from other ranges.
Skill level required
Intermediate level, no soldering. The N64 opens with a 4.5 mm security screwdriver ("gamebit" bit), then a Phillips screwdriver for the shielding and motherboard. You transfer the internal parts into the new shell and reassemble. Keep the screws and small parts from the original shell: they may be needed for reassembly.

The job: re-housing an N64
A scratched or yellowed N64 often works perfectly well: it is the housing that has seen better days. You open it with the 4.5 mm security screwdriver, transfer the motherboard, shielding and power supply into the new shell, and close it up. The console works as before, in a housing that shows off its electronics.
